Explore Metrics

Epsagon gives you the ability to explore metrics, based on different datasources. You can query metrics and visualise them in various way, to monitor your application and perform root-cause analysis for specific issues or to view trends over time.

Metrics Explorer is composed of two main sections:

  • Chart view - shows a visualisation of the user queries.
  • Query builder - a place to build your queries, and to choose how to visualise them in the Visualizations tab.

Building a query

In the Metrics field you can choose which metric will be represented in the chart.
Metrics options:

Number of items that match the selected filters.

Average value of the selected field.

Total value of the selected field.

Maximum value of the selected field.

Minimum value of the selected field.

Extended Stats

Visualise multiple metrics of the same field, using a single metric (options include average, minimum, standard deviation etc)

Visualise percentile values over time. By clicking the "Options", you can select which percentiles will be shown.

Unique Count

Number of unique items that match the selected filters.

Moving Average

Calculates a moving average of a previous metric. You must have at least one other metric added before using moving average.

View multiple metrics

You can add multiple metrics by clicking the + button. Each metric will be visualised as a separate time series.

Filters are used to narrow down your results. You can use different operators (bigger, smaller, equals etc) to filters for specific field values.
In case you use multiple filters, and AND operator will be applied between them.

Group by

You can break down your query result by specific fields. You can group by multiple fields.
Multiple Options are available for group by:

  • Order - determines whether the results are ordered by top to bottom, by the selected Order by term.
  • Size - the number of results will be limited by this selection.
  • Order By - Value orders by the aggregated values, Count by the number of items of each group.
  • Minimum Count - only groups with values bigger than this value will be shown.

Series custom names

To format your time series names to your liking, you can use the Alias field.
The graph legend names will use the text given in Alias. You can use {{group_by_field}} format, where the value between the brackets is a field selected in group by. In this case, the whole expression will be replaced with the individual group values.
